Getting started
Step one: you need a node!
If you are handy, you can build one yourself, but don't worry, you can buy pre-built nodes and they won't break the bank! There are options for many different skill levels. You can buy something ready to go or you can do some basic assembly and electronics. It's up to you!
Pre-assembled nodes, ready to go
If you don't want to build your own node, you can buy one of the following pre-assembled nodes. They are ready to go out of the box and will work with the Meshtastic firmware.
T-Deck Pro
Open-Source Dev Board with keyboard and touchscreen

WisMesh Board ONE Pocket
Ready-to-Use Meshtastic Node based on WisMesh Board ONE

WisMesh Pocket V2
Ready-to-Use Meshtastic Device with Multicolor Enclosures Options

Meshtastic Mesh Device Nano G2 Ultra
Compact and versatile pre-assembled Meshtastic device

DIY nodes
If you are handy, you can build your own node. You will need a LoRa radio module and a microcontroller. The following are some of the most popular options:
LILYGO T-Echo
Popular development board with built-in LoRa and NRF52840

Heltec WiFi LoRa 32
ESP32 development board with built-in OLED display and LoRa radio

LILYGO T-Beam
ESP32 board with LoRa, GPS and battery management

Outdoor and Solar Nodes
For extending the network outdoors, solar-powered nodes are an excellent option. They can be placed in strategic locations to expand coverage without needing a power outlet.

Step Two: Join the Network
After you build and/or power on your Meshtastic device, it will start automatically seeking nearby nodes and begin passing data. You can say hello to your new friends, or you can create a private channel to keep your messages private.
Getting connected:
-
Power on your Meshtastic device
-
Download the Meshtastic app for your device (or if it's a standalone device, you are good to go!)
-
Connect to your node via Bluetooth
-
Set your username and configure your preferences
-
Start exchanging messages with nearby nodes!
